What is it?
“Gaza, you’ll never walk alone” is an international fundraising campaign for the people of Gaza built around a hip t-shirt design with a serious message. Buy the shirt knowing that all profits go to three organizations working to support Palestinians in Gaza and helping advocates to speak out for a future built on freedom, justice and dignity: UNRWA, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and Makan. Wear the t-shirt to show your solidarity.
The t-shirt design is upbeat, warm and assertive: the watermelon motif, which symbolises Palestinian national aspirations, encompasses the words “You’ll never walk alone” in both Arabic and English.
This campaign embodies the solidarity that goes to the heart
of the phrase “You’ll never walk alone”, which has evolved in usage
and affiliation on its cultural ‘carousal’ since 1945. This campaign has no affiliation with, nor endorsement by, Liverpool Football Club or Celtic FC – though it welcomes their fans to share the love and spirit of humanity that is desperately needed at the moment.
What your purchase supports
UNRWA and MSF provide vital support to Palestinians in a number of critical ways: emergency aid, medical and psychological support, education, primary health care and mental health care, relief and social services, emergency assistance and much more. Makan is
a Palestinian-led, UK-based charity that works to support advocates to speak out as part of a community that is not only well-informed, interconnected, and empowered, but passionately committed to cultivating a future for Palestinians built on freedom, justice, and dignity.
The graphic was designed by Lebanese lettering artist Samer Bou Saleh, with the English version adapted by Bethan Emerson, a UK-based graphic artist.
(Ever wondered what’s with Palestine and watermelon? Following Israel’s occupation of Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem, Israel banned any display of the Palestinian flag in public. Because the local fruit's colours match the Palestinian flag, Palestinians used the watermelon as a symbol to circumvent and protest against the ban.)
This campaign has been proudly organized by Pressure Cooker Arts, a UK-based not-for-profit with a focus on Palestinian rights.
